Time to dust off your bow

Hunting season is quickly approaching, it’s time to dust off your bow and start practicing.
Standing in front of hay-bales either in your back yard or at your local club can get kind of boring. One good way to make practice more exciting is to go to a local archery tournament. For the next couple of months you can find one almost every weekend across the state. You don’t have to be a “Pro” with a fancy target bow to enjoy these outings. Tournaments are a venue to meet new people in the archery community and can also be a great family outing not to mention excellent hunting situation practice.

 There are several types of tournaments going on at this time of the year. 3-D’s where you walk through a course shooting 3 dimensional animal targets at unmarked distances, Safari shoots where you shoot 3D targets at marked distances along a walk through the course, Field rounds where you shoot and walk through the course with paper targets at marked distance, and Target shoots where you shoot at targets at ranges of 60, 70 and 80 meters, similar to the Olympics. A lot of the Safari tournaments and the 3D’s will allow an archer to shoot just for fun with their family members or friends where if you were competing for awards they usually pair you up with a group of archers in the same division and equipment style.

Here’s a list of web sites where you can find schedules for tournaments;
