The new Lowrance LCG-4000

The new Lowrance LCG-4000 high sensitivity GPS receiver antenna offers advanced performance and provides the best sensitivity, accuracy and fastest signal lock in a new compact 3-inch size. This antenna offers the first true 5 Hz (5 times a second) update rate. This means improved time to first fix, strength of signal lock and resistance to interference.

So how does it work? Well I installed one on my 26ft North River O/S and one on my 18ft Scout sled. The LCG-4000 is compatible with any GPS unit that Lowrance makes that has an external GPS antenna plug-in. Lowrance makes an adapter to fit red to blue connectors (Part # 127-05). The mounting holes on the LCG-4000 are smaller than the current Lowrance LCG-3000 antennas. However if you use one of the existing holes and only have to drill one new one and the hole for the cord will line up and the antenna will cover up the extra hole and it makes for a clean install. I tried the LCG-4000 on a new HDS -10 and an older LCX 38 C it locked on as fast as the units would come on, it tracks much better than the LCG-3000 it replaced because of updating 5 times a second compared to 1 time a second. I mounted the LCG-4000 next to my high power open array radar; they were no issues with interference.

The antenna acquired signal extremely fast and never lost position on either unit. The 5 Hz improved navigation and waypoint performance with real time position, speed over ground, and rate of turn measurement. Bottom line its well worth the upgrade to this receiver in my opinion if you have an older Lowrance GPS receiver.

One tip if flush mounting the receiver leave some extra cable coming straight out of the bottom of the antenna don’t bend it over right away to tie up the wires; about 4 inches works great; after all its only 22 gage wire pulling it to tight could wear on it. If you mount it in the supplied spat your good to go as there is no issue.
