South Vancouver Island-Nitinat /Port Renfrew
Summer Kings
Located just across the Strait of Juan De Fuca from Neah Bay Port Renfrew can provide top summer salmon fishing. This area is a pristine wilderness area with some excellent fish for retuning summer kings in shallow water. The entire area from Owen Point to Carmamah Point is all great trolling. Work the 50-70 ft depth contour fishing your riggers at 20-25ft. Fishing get start here in July and peaks in August.
The local favorite setup is an anchovy rigged whole in a helmet behind a red 11 inch flasher. I have also done were well trolling Ace High Flies here.
Father West is the mouth of Nitinat Lake. This area can be very productive in Late August both to trollers and mooching just off the mouth.
Coho
For summer coho just move into a little deeper water and look for a tide rip. Start trolling a faster and you can target fall coho here too. They start to appear in July with larger fish showing up in September.
Note: Be aware of local WDFW regulations on bringing fish back to the US form BC and Canadian fishing regulations/ licensing requirements. Also review custom regulations if you plan to make port in Canada.
