Elk Camp
This year Lisa and I elk hunted the Rimrock unit during the archery season, we didn’t set up camp until September 10th so the elk we were going to hunt had already been pushed around for a couple of days. Between the weather and the hunting pressure it was a hard year of hunting. Our normal “hot spots” were lacking the elk numbers we usually see.
Where we normally see herds of 6-10 elk we were only seeing 1 to 2. Neither Lisa or I were presented with a shot but we did see elk every day. One of our hunting partners, Verdon Nelson from Spokane was able to connect with a nice cow his second day of hunting. We didn’t see a lot of elk in other camps either. On Friday Sept 17th we made a run down to Naches for more provisions and we did hear reports that the Naches unit was producing good numbers of elk harvested.

Even though the elk numbers seemed down we did see a lot more deer and grouse this year than in the past. On Sept 18th we broke camp and returned home.
Looks like we’ll be hunting in the snow over Thanksgiving.
