So what are you looking at? You are looking at the reticule inside my 3x9 Leupold scope that is mounted on my model 70 Winchester. When I was getting ready to retire from the Navy my wife wanted to buy me a gift that I could use and enjoy in the coming years. A rifle was the logical choice. I found a Winchester Super Grade Mode 70 in 300 WIN MAG at a local gun store. I did not like the trigger pull on the rifle and after a couple of phone calls I got through to a Winchester employee who had me ship the rifle back to him at New Haven where he over saw the re-work of the rifle. Basically he was re-fitted to the stock and the trigger was re-adjusted to a crisp 3.5to 4 pounds.

I used CONETROL Scope mounts for this rifle to give it that sleek look. You can only find these at www.conetrol.com I think these are one of the best mounts on the market and Conetrol offers mounts for just about anything out there. Don helped with the scope mounting with the base mounting just like in our scope mounting video. The scope rings have a different design so you need to follow the manufacture directions for them.

The scope I had was a new in the box 3x9 VX-1 Leupold. Just a Great everyday scope, but I thought maybe if I write Leupold they could improve it. So I fired off a letter to Leupold and asked about a custom reticule for my bullet of choice. I was asked to supply the ballistic data for my bullet and to send them the scope. With the help of my friend Rick Garcia of TRI TECH TRAINING / MISSION FIRST (a long range shooter check out www.tttmissionfrist.com He supplied the correct data to send Leupold. When I received the scope back and mounted it on my rifle I was off to the range. As expected everything was right on. The dots where set prefect. I have shot this rifle and scope set up out to 600 yards with the same results on target. The proof is always in the pudding or in the field as you can see this elk was shot at 340 yards and this antelope at 300 yards.

Now you are thinking what bullet does he use well that is a whole different blog! If you go to www.leupold.com check out their custom shop and all the options they offer.
