It’s time to start scouting for your upcoming hunts. This means road trips with your family. Our pets are family to us and we love to take them where we go, but are you prepared for those car trips with them? Unrestrained pets cause a car accident every 18 minutes. There are many dog seats and barriers for your car to protect your pet from harming themselves and your family. We know our dogs like to have their heads out the window but consider that debris does come up and actually damage your pet’s eyes. There are special goggles to protect your dog’s eyes on the market called Doggles, also pets that hang their head out the window should have their ears covered so they don’t do damage to their delicate ear drums. Senior pets may need help getting into the vehicle, there are ramps designed to assist them. Dogs traveling in a truck bed can slide around during turns and sudden stops. If you must transport a dog in the truck bed please invest in a crate or use 2 ties to secure him/her to the center of the bed so they can not jump out and be injured or killed.
Here is a traveling checklist for your pet:
* First aid kit/book
* Pets veterinary records
* Extra collar/ leashes
* Extra medications and food
* Snake bite kit
* Bowls & drinking water
* Current ID tags, rabies tag, micro chip, & pets photo
* Blankets, towels, & toys
* Emergency numbers of family and friends Good luck finding the area you will be hunting this year have a good time with your pets on your family road trips.
