With the hunting seasons winding down it is time to remember to give your gun a good cleaning.
Of course everyone cleans the bore but few clean it throughly and that is what is required. Do not clean it from the muzzle, clean it from the chamber end of the weapon. If you use a copper jacketed bullet you will need to use a sovent to remove the copper left behing in your barrel. After you have gotten the copper residue out take just as much time getting the solvent out of the bore using dry patches. Then treat the bore with rust preventative. Rifles, pistols, muzzleloader or shotguns this cleaning is pretty much the same process.
Now break the gun down or remove the action from the stock and dry and clean everything. Use a standard lubricant to wipe down all metal parts. Be sure to torque the action screws to the proper tension when you are done.
If you keep your weapons in a gun safe (always recommended) use a dessicant bag or other device designed to keep the moisture out of you guns.
Your guns and you will be glad you spent the time to store them correctly when you need them next year.
The "Snake River Hunting Club" recommends using "Montana X-Treme" cleaning products. Montana Extreme does not use chlorides or acids, so they will not damage your barrel.
